Shire Woodworking Club – October 2017 Newsletter
Shire Woodworking Club – October 2017 Newsletter posted below.
Unfortunately 2 long time members passed away in the last month, Alan Davis hadn’t been able to make it for a long time but Ray Schofield was only around 2 months ago.
Ray was the next youngest member when I joined so I knew him quite well as he was only a few years older than me. His brain tumour operation a couple of years ago seemed to have been a success but unfortunately it returned aggressively.
Newsletter mainly focused on the Plank Competition; I missed second place by 1 point – bummer!
As you can see there was a mixture of entries; the fact that it was toy related and only half a plank certainly made quite a difference and leveled the field somewhat.
Photo of the attendees for publicity; we had the Federal MP, State MP and Sutherland Shire Council Mayor visit on the day. Of course they all had something to say!
Good article on the latest delivery to the Sydney Children’s Hospital on 26th September of 400 items.

I am an accountant who uses woodwork as a way to escape computers. I work in the back half of a tandem garage under the house; effectively a basement that also houses my wife’s car. I have a reasonable set of tools and am getting more into hand tools, mainly due to the lack of noise and dust minimization. I live in Sydney Australia and am a active member of The Shire Woodworking Club, Cubby House Turners & Woodies Inc and The Traditional Tools Group Inc Why Hugo’s Woodshop? All decent website options with Gary were taken so I had to look for something else! Hugo is our 3 year old Ragdoll cat who is very nosy and likes investigating the garage / workshop:
