Workshop Update – my first chopping board

Workshop Update I have been promising my wife for a while that I would make a replacement cutting board for the kitchen; she finally had enough and threw out the old one!  I ended up making a small cutting board that can also be used as a charcuterie or cheese board. The main timber is american oak which is what we have in our house on the stairs and floorboards so a good match. No idea […]

New themed pens – Cat, Dog and Music

I saw these Cat, Dog and Music themed pen kits advertised recently on my USA suppliers site and as they are not available here in Australia I decided would get some and try making them. The starter kits contain the mechanisms plus the bushings and drill bit required.   These pens are currently for sale through my eBay and Etsy stores, link here. These pens may be sold but I will be completing the others […]

Shire Woodworking Club – January 2019 Newsletter

Shire Woodworking Club – January 2019 Newsletter posted below. Good to see a great turnout for the December Maxi-day and Christmas lunch; unfortunately I was unable to attend this time. Some great entries in the club’s excellence awards; I may submit something one of these years. Quite good quality of entries, the lack of entries has been a problem in previous years. Geoff looked to be a deserving winner of the overall award; his work […]

My version of a wooden guitar stand

My version of a wooden guitar stand. I bought a guitar years ago with the intention of learning how to play; finally decided to get it restrung towards the end of last year. Went to a new guitar shop in Leichhard near me and somehow the discussion turned to stands; they were trying to buy some from Melbourne but getting no responses. These were primarily for displays in the store for expensive guitars currently […]

Shire Woodworking Club – December 2018 Newsletter

Shire Woodworking Club – December 2018 Newsletter posted below. Unfortunately this month we lost two long standing members, Fred and Ian; with Fred being a foundation member as well. Good write up on both of them I think that they are going to name a corner of the workshop as “Fred’s Corner” as this is where he assembled a lot of his tables and chairs. 947 charitable toy and therapy items for the year; a […]

Geoff’s jig for gluing spaced segmented vases

Last month Geoff displayed these vases at the Shire Woodworking maxi day and was asked lots of questions about the making process so he brought his glueing assembly jig along at the next maxi day. This is his “simple jig” for spacing that he made! Basically it is an indexing plate that moves the piece a predetermined distance and you add the new piece against the stop. After you have completed a level you move […]

Shire Woodworking Club – November 2018 Newsletter

Shire Woodworking Club – November 2018 Newsletter posted below. I got my photo on the front page; along with other Plank Competition winners! Gymea Village Fair again was a great result for the club; great to have 20 members to assist on the day. Some great photos.  Interesting looking program for next year; the emphasis is in increasing knowledge which works well in my opinion. Had a look at the new Nova Voyager Drill Press; […]

Shire Woodworking Club – October 2018 Newsletter

Shire Woodworking Club – October 2018 Newsletter posted below. A lot to see in this months newsletter with the photos from the plank competition entries along with a delivery to the Sydney Children’s Hospital of 195 items. I am featured in the division C category; I got 3rd equal this year; last year I got third! Some great entries in all three categories; quite different considering we all had the same pine planks to use […]
