Something different – Desk Organisers / Desk Caddies

Something different – Desk Organisers / Desk Caddies Saw this on Instagram and decided that it looked straight forward, a good use of scraps and none for sale in Australia. Used timber I already had based the sizes on my timber. Deciding what holes was a mixture of identifying what forstner drill bits I had and the look, not particularly scientific. I did try and line up with the centers and tries to keep a […]

I recently attended a silicone mold (mould) class

I recently attended a silicone mold (mould) class. I was looking at buying some molds for pen casting and saw this course at the local community college.   Course description Learn how to make a silicone mould for your unique jewellery piece in Sydney. This hands-on workshop will teach you how to design and make your own moulds that can be used to make multiples of resin arts pieces again and again. Develop an understanding about the […]

New themed pens – Cat, Dog and Music

I saw these Cat, Dog and Music themed pen kits advertised recently on my USA suppliers site and as they are not available here in Australia I decided would get some and try making them. The starter kits contain the mechanisms plus the bushings and drill bit required.   These pens are currently for sale through my eBay and Etsy stores, link here. These pens may be sold but I will be completing the others […]

Geoff’s jig for gluing spaced segmented vases

Last month Geoff displayed these vases at the Shire Woodworking maxi day and was asked lots of questions about the making process so he brought his glueing assembly jig along at the next maxi day. This is his “simple jig” for spacing that he made! Basically it is an indexing plate that moves the piece a predetermined distance and you add the new piece against the stop. After you have completed a level you move […]

Workshop update – pen organisation and disassembly

Workshop update – pen organisation and disassembly. Have been turning some different pens recently and found that I didn’t know what blanks I had worked on; the plastic drawers as below are good to keep kits and bushings in but also including blanks was a bit messy.      I saw something similar the the stand below on Instagram and thought it was good as you can see the quantity for each type. Looks a […]

Workshop Update – Pens and more pens

Unfortunately I had to be in NZ for most of November as my mother was dying; typically this was when I started selling pens! I managed to ship some between trips, delay some and got my wife and sister in law to post others.  Another issue was that I forgot to remove a sold item from eBay after it was sold via Etsy; this would happen when I only have one of each item.  This […]

See separate post regarding the making of the train set below:    Pen Sales Sold a pen out on eBay out of the blue; I had forgot that I had posted pens for sale here and had a moment of panic that I had already sold or given away the […]
